Tasmania First Home Buyer Support

TASMANIA

At a glance: Eligible new-home/build transactions commencing between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027 may receive a $20,000 First Home Owner Grant. Tasmania’s previous first-home duty relief on established homes and its off-the-plan apartment/unit concession both ENDED on 30 June 2026 and are no longer current offers.

What is available now

First Home Owner Grant: eligible new-home/build transactions commencing 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 may receive $20,000.

Ended, not current: the previous first-home buyer duty relief on established homes ended 30 June 2026. The prior off-the-plan apartment/unit duty concession also ended 30 June 2026. Neither should be relied on, quoted, or advertised as a current offer for a new contract.

New vs established homes

With the established-home duty relief now ended, the current live benefit in Tasmania is specifically the $20,000 Grant for new-home or build transactions in the 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027 window. Established-home purchases currently have no equivalent state concession.

How this can work with federal support

The $20,000 Grant can potentially combine with the 5% Deposit Scheme where you separately qualify for a new-home purchase.

What to confirm before signing

  • that your contract date falls inside the 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027 window for the current $20,000 Grant
  • that you are not being quoted the ended established-home duty relief or the ended off-the-plan concession as if still current
  • current SRO eligibility conditions for the Grant directly before signing
